Walk to Port Isaac

This is a harder walk: we did it on a calm Winter’s day with our friends.

It’s 9 miles, takes 4 hours, and has quite a few ascents and descents up steps.
The walk runs from Rock, along the coast to Polzeath, and up past the pretty little Port Quin, to Port Isaac.

Stats

  • 9 mile coastal walk from Rock
  • It takes 4 to 4.5 hours
  • Up and down, moderate going, with several climbs up steps.

Preparation

Take plenty to drink, snacks, and make sure you have walking shoes.
Don’t forget suncream, a hat, and shades. Plus money and a mobile phone.
There are cafes and shops on the way: at Harlyn and Polzeath.
Check out the weather beforehand as it can change quickly, and carry appropriate clothes.

If you want a map I’d recommend the Ordnance Survey South West Coast Path No.2.

The Walk

From Constantine Bay, or Seaspell Beach House, head to Padstow. Get the ferry across to the start point in Rock.

Bear left, along the coastal path, and follow your nose all the way through to Harlyn, with St. Enodoc golf course on your right, and the Camel Estuary on the left.

This craggy coastline has quite demanding ups and downs.

Proceed from Haryln onwards to Polzeath.
